With the onset of the colder weather the number of blog posts about onsen visits also rises. This week we have a review of Kinosaki Onsen and Dogo Onsen, a bathing experience in a ryokan, a great tip on how to recreate the goodness of an onsen in the comfort of your own home and a look at some of the best onsen in Tokyo.

• Anja Taferner took us on a virtual to Kinosaki Onsen, one of those typically Japanese onsen resort towns in north-western Kansai, where she joined the “plenty of people wearing yukatas (cotton kimonos) and wooden sandals (a very specific Japanese type of sandal that makes quite a loud noise) on their way from one onsen to another“.
• Chibisimo went to Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama (also see our recent post about Dogo Onsen). “We spend some time outside the entrance to the bathhouse trying to decipher the instructions on the different types of tickets available.“
• Over at Mr News Breaker Hillary Doling writes about her bathing experience at a ryokan. She “soap[ed] up first and soak[ed] second, so perched on a little stool I fling buckets of water over myself and scrub off the city grime“.
• On her blog Pink Dolly explains how you can bring the goodness of an onsen into your own home. She is “looking into visiting one … next year. So in the mean time I can only recreate it in the comfort of my own home and here is how…“
• Tokyo Room Finder ran a post explaining in detail how to get most out of an onsen experience and recommends six onsen in and around Tokyo deemed worth a visit.
